This is my entry for the Online Quilt Festival over at Park City Girl's blog
This is one of the first quilts I made it was in 2003 I made it for my grandmother. She loved pansy's so that was my starting point, I found the lavender fabric in a box that belonged to my great-grandmother so I wanted to include it in my grandmothers quilt.
I used fusible to do the hearts and then hand blanket stitched around each one. I then pieced the squares with the hearts together and added the borders.
I machine quilted it in the ditch.
When my grandmother passed about this last year the quilt was returned to me. It sat on the foot of her bed when she made her bed every morning, She didn't want to use it because it might get dirty LOL!
I love this quilt just because it reminds me of her not because of any great technical achievement.

Thats a really nice looking quilt. Quilting in the ditch is a pain for me, but from what I see you've done a great job of it.

Great looking quilt. Too bad your grandmother didn't use it more than a bed decoration. But it's obvious that she loved it (and you) and wanted to see it every day. I'm glad that you'll have it to remember her by.
One of my first quilts was appliqued hearts too. I like the purple.
Your hearts are so pretty and it was wonderful that you took the time you add your great-grandmother's fabrics to your quilt.
It's always hard when things are returned to us. I remember claiming "it wasn't meant for me" when something I'd given was returned for those same reasons.
Even though your Grandmother would not use her quilt, she still enjoyed seeing it every day ..... lovely quilt!

It certainly is a nice quilt and meaningful since you made it from some of your great grandma's fabric and because it was owned by your own grandma. I hope you write the story down and pin it to the back of the quilt so your daughter or grandchildren know the details about it. I have several quilts that are in the family, but the details are not as clear as yours.

I love that quilt, hearts, pansies and purple... all my favorites and to think you made it for your grandmother. How sweet is that. I know you treasure having it back with you now.
Your quilt is a wonderful quilt with a special story. Like yourself, I made a quilt for my grandmother- I did an Iris because I could not find a pansy pattern that I liked- My grandmother loved pansies too.
Your quilt is really beautiful- I am sure it brought her pleasure all the last days of her life.
My grandmother's quilt has come back to me. For awhile, I did not want to have it around me- it made me miss her more but as time has gone on- I enjoy seeing it and wrapping myself in it. I remember her love and the pleasure she got from the quilt.
