Raw food diet???

Has anyone heard of this? Its not so much of a "diet" as a lifestyle, like being vegan or vegetarian, You only eat things that are raw or dehydrated. Nothing heated to over 116 degrees. I find this very interesting, I am not a huge meat fan and I like my veggies raw. I have to wonder about how you get enough protein in your diet, I believe tofu is cooked so you would be down to nuts and raw beans. That sounds really hard on your digestive tract.
The biggest down side I can see to this is no sugar, no chocolate, and no CF diet coke. Now I know I can hear you all saying "Carin your diabetic you shouldn't be eating sugar and chocolate anyway." I know I know I am working on it. Not very hard I admit but I am trying a little.
Anyone with thoughts or experience with this "lifestyle" I would love to hear it.

I would think that you might have a LOT of problems with your digestive system. You know, the unpleasant, embarrassing kind of problems. :~)

I don't really like meat all that well either. Especially beef. I would much rather eat chicken and pork. I love soups, so I would have a hard time with this. In the summer time it would be easier.

Ohhhh, chocolate is a superfood and you can eat a ton of it! Just needs to be in the raw form. Check out bunny berry's blog http://www.bunnyberry.blogspot.com/

She has set up a website for raw fooders.

Admittedly, I was checked for diabetes a few years back because of dizzy spells.

I was told I am borerline glycemic... needing sugar.

Works for me. I LOVE SUGAR!!!!

I'm sorry but I'm a big meat eater so I'll be no help.
Mind you I do eat my steak very rare so does that count?

love and hugs Gina xxx

Hey Carin! I'm with Gina - this is strictly a carnivore house - can just imagine the reaction I'd get from my beloved if I told him he could only have raw fruit and veges! Tee! Hee! Hee! And I gotta ask - what is that purple/fushia coloured vege in the middle? That's a new one to me!! Not sure I could eat something I can't identify!:0) Bear Hugs! (note: bears are carnivores too!!) I've heard of it, but that's about it. Maybe you can find a Raw Food forum or something.

Wow -- I haven't heard of this. I'm a big ol' carnivore (not to mention sugarholic) so it doesn't sound terribly appealing even though I love raw veggies.

Oh, and I LOVE your Turkey border!!!

I know someone who was on something called "the caveman diet" (!?!)
it was supposed to be raw vegetable, nuts, legumes with a little bit of meat. I think given a little time - your body would probably adjust to it. I keep a bag of tiny dove chocolate bars hidden and have one each evening.
Shhh - it's a secret.

I've been a vegetarian for 23 years. Whenever we prepare for a 7 day fast we eat only raw vegetables, tofu, fruit etc. for several weeks. We usually eat a lot of nuts and seeds but not while preparing for a fast because it makes the body too acid which gives very unpleasant sideffects while fasting.

I love to eat bread but it is a lot harder on my digestive system than nuts etc.

I would not last very long on a raw food diet. I am not the biggest veggie fan the way it is, but a day without some kind of chocolate is not a good day at all!

I think this would be awesome for you. I know of several diabetics who've recovered by eating raw. You don't have to down a lot of nuts, seeds, or beans to get your protein. It's recommended that women have between 25 and 40 grams of protein a day. I had 35 grams of protein in my diet yesterday and I ate mostly fruit with one large salad at the end of the day...zero nuts, seeds, or beans.
